It has come down to the final round. McKinzie and Shink have dueled across four seasons. The count is currently two championships for McKinzie, and one for Shink. Can Shink pull off the comeback and match McKinzie’s second championship?

PosNameGap
1Logan McKinzie443
2Francois Shink-35

Francois Shink trails Logan McKinzie in the championship fight by 35 points. For Francois, a win and a full sweep of possible bonus points is the best-case scenario, but even this scenario requires McKinzie to finish lower than 16th. If McKinzie is able to bring home a 16th place or better finish, it’s his championship.

McKinzie’s incident counts have trended upwards recently, allowing Shink to sneak back into the fight.

The festivities at Road America are not only about these two. Let’s take a look at some championship battles that could unfold this week.

Battle For 3rd
PosNameGap
3Robert Abrams389
4James D Carr389
5Jérôme Bajulaz-6
6Matthew Rzepka-16
7Wojciech Swirydowicz-24

Mathematically eliminated from the championship fight, these five drivers all still have a chance to secure the final podium spot in the championship.

For Slugnificent and Carr, it’s simple. Whoever wins in the race, takes the position in the championship. But they could both have rough days and yield 3rd place in the standings to Bajulaz, who is only 6 points behind. In Alpha Challenges, that is a points difference of just 3 positions on track. Rzepka is in a tougher situation, needing to beat Carr and Slug by 8 positions to only be level with them on points. Swirydowicz would need a lot of help, and a stellar day on top of that.

Battle For 8th
PosNameGap
8Ronald Methot285
9Justin T Rhodes-7

Methot and Rhodes have been close all season, but now Methot has the advantage when he needs it the most. His 7 point gap means Rhodes will have to beat him by 4 positions to edge him out for 8th in the standings. If they tie, Methot would hold the tiebreaker with more Top 5s and 10s.

Battle For 10th
PosNameGap
10David Bauer2213
11D Cody Hunley-14
12Jacob Whalley-15
13Aaron La-21

For Bauer, this top 10 championship finish looks locked up. If he can drive a clean race and bring it home, his rivals would have to beat him by at least 8 positions to kick him out of 10th.

Battle For 14th
PosNameGap
14Jorge Zuñiga164
15Jon Lauzon164
16Shaun Gurd-1
17Wiley Cox-3
18Ray Bartnikowski-10

The fight for 14th could come down to the very end. Zuñiga, Lauzon, and Gurd are all practically level on points, with Cox only one position’s worth of points behind. For these four, it’s a simple matter of who finishes ahead of the other, tiebreakers not considered. Bartnikowski will have a slightly tougher go of things, but could easily gain a few positions if things go his way.

Battle For 19th
PosNameGap
18Nick Beaver118
19Agust Blondal-6
20Dom Savio-10
21Eric Statzer-13
22Alexander Carver-Robbins-14
23Daniel E Smith-21
24Gurkan Demir-26
25Daniel Cedeno-26

There are a lot of tight battles both for 18th and for every position down to 25th here. If Beaver is once again absent, suddenly 18th becomes much more attainable for some of these drivers. Blondal and Savio are separated by two positions, Stater and Carver-Robbins are separated by one, but Demir and Cedeno are level on points. Expect great battles throughout this group.

The Season 4 Final is tonight, at 10:00PM EDT. Thank you for racing with us this season!
